Happy Monday Girls!!!!!! Firstly, it was SO GREAT to see you all at our Zoom on Friday! Thank you for joining and I'm looking forward to our next one already!
I hope you all got on well with last week's work. As usual, the answers are on the feedback and corrections page so make sure you're up to date and send me any questions you may have.
The end of the year is always a very busy time - especially in 6th - and as we are now entering the last few weeks I'd like to remind you to keep an eye on the blog homepage throughout the week for any important updates.
Have a fabulous week and be sure to get outside into the sunshine whilst we have it!

- Planet Maths Topic 29: Variables (algebra) pg 181 A+B
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmLb9SJHlgU (algebra explained- optional).
We have done some of these in Master Your Maths. Remember not to be distracted or confused by the fact that there are letters appearing in sums!! Here is the example for A on pg 181.
x + 20 = 100
- This could also be written as: ⬜ + 20 = 100 (it probably makes better sense this way)
- What you are doing in your head now is saying “something plus 20 makes 100.” You possibly know the answer now!
- What you’re actually doing is getting rid of the 20 so that the x is on its own. To do that we take away 20 from each side of the equals.
- On one side we are left with just the x and on the other side we have 100-20.
- So now x = 100 -20
- 100- 20 = 80
- So x = 80
And B
7y = 42
- When the number and the letter appear right beside each other with no number in between it means 7 times the unknown number.
- So, 7 x ⬜ = 42. Does it make better sense now?
- Again work backwards… y = 42 divided by 7
- y = 6

y/5 = 8 (this means an unknown number divided by 5 equals 8)
- You might know in your head (from knowing your tables) what number has to be divided by 5 to give us 8. Lots of you will have the answer below already which is great!
- What you actually done in your head - without realising) is multiplied both sides by 5 (which got rid of it on one side) and on the other side we have 8 x 5 = 40
- So y = 40

I'll Be There For You
So no one told you life was gonna be this way
Not been at school in so long
Forget your teacher’s name
It's like you're always stuck in second gear
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month
Or even your year, but
I'll be there for you
When the rain starts to pour
I'll be there for you
Like I've been there before
I'll be there for you
'Cause you're there for me too
You're still in bed at ten
And work began at eight
You've burned your breakfast, so far
Things are going great
Your mother warned you there'd be days like these
But she didn't tell you when the world has brought
You down to your knees and
I'll be there for you
When the rain starts to pour
I'll be there for you
Like I've been there before
I'll be there for you
'Cause you're there for me too
No one could ever know me
No one could ever see me
Seems you're the only one who knows
What it's like to be me
Someone to face the day with
Make it through all the rest with
Someone I'll always laugh with
Even at my worst, I'm best with you, yeah
It's like you're always stuck in second gear
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month
Or even your year
I'll be there for you
When the rain starts to pour
I'll be there for you
Like I've been there before
